Plenty on confusion out there. Is it the TA Moulton barn, or the John Moulton barn, or just the Moulton barn? Is there 1 or 2 barns? Which is the most photographed barn in America? Well I can put some of that to rest for you. Most of that can be figured out in the other parts of this website, but I am here to make it quick and easy to figure it out.
TA Moulton Barn:
Sometimes this is know as the South Barn. Built over a 40 year period by TA Moulton and his sons, this is the original barn that became famous in the 60’s and 70’s from photos taken by local photographers made it known as the most photographed barn in America.
Because it sets south of the main Antelope Flats road, it is often missed by passing tourists and photographers.
John Moulton Barn:
This barn is also know as the North Barn. It sets right on Antelope Flats road, and is easily see from the road. It also has other out building, including the house and Outhouse to complement it. The corrals have been restored, so it is more complete looking. One of the early reasons it was not photographed as mush it that there were Telephone poles still on the property with telephone wire strung between them. Any photos contained those poles and wire. This made any photos less desirable. In somewhat recent years, the park service removed those poles, making it a much better photograph spot.
Each barn and homestead is as important as the other. Neither would have existed without the other. Each was built with labor from both ranches. We make it a habit of correcting photo tags that are wrong in there description to give credit where credit is due.
